The Incredible Flying Yacht

The Incredible Flying Yacht

We’ve seen some incredibly imaginative creations in Ultimate Design over the past few years, but few can match Yelken Octuri’s Flying Yacht – a 46.2-metre trimaran that converts to a seaplane. It may seem like a flight of fancy but all the best superyachts rely on a helicopter to ferry guests around, so it’s a logical, if slightly off-the-wall, development to turn the yacht itself into a flying machine. In superyacht mode, the orientation of the four paired ‘masts’ can be individually controlled to ensure the best possible sail profile wherever the wind is coming from… continue reading

Biggest Sailing Yacht Signed – Dykstra Freivokh 141M

Biggest Sailing Yacht Signed – Dykstra Freivokh 141M

The team that created Maltese Falcon has regrouped to design Dream Symphony, a spectacular 462 ft four masted staysail schooner destined to be the biggest private yacht ever – and she may be built in timber

The superyacht community were dumbfounded when details of this four-masted staysail schooner were circulated during the Monaco Yacht Show. At 462ft, the romantically named Dream Symphony will be the biggest private sailing yacht ever to be built and if the number crunchers can come up with a way of building her in timber, the client’s preference, she will be in a class of her own…continue reading

On the Dock of the Bay – Marina Managers

On the Dock of the Bay – Marina Managers

At the heart of every successful marina is a manager who can deliver impeccable service – and sustain lucrative client relationships

Except when they’re cruising, boarding or leaving, owners seldom specify where their yachts should dock. The task falls instead to the captain who will usually choose a marina by first considering its facilities – and the professionalism of its staff.

With superyachts spending thousands of euros in each and every marina they visit, it’s little wonder marina managers go out of their way to make sure their infrastructure and personnel meet with the complete approval of visiting captains… continue reading

Picchiotti – Vitruvius 50 M Exuma

Even if it was only the just assembled hull and deck, in 2009 we were probably amongst the first to be able to admire the first of the new Vitruvius range, with which the Perini Group, through its time honoured brand Picchiotti, has entered the superyacht power market. In early July this year we were at its official launch, when the yacht was delivered to its owner… continue reading

Superyacht Gadgets to Die For

Superyacht Gadgets to Die For

Tom Isitt looks at the latest hi tech lunacy to be found on some of the world’s blingest superyachts.

When too much is still not enough, you’ve reached that special place where conspicuous consumption meets conspicuous lunacy, and the result is a gold-plated diamond-encrusted Segway to transport you from your mink-lined Jacuzzi to your porphyry marble steam room… continue reading

Memory Maker

Memory Maker

To John Rosatti, a yacht is a lot more than the sum of its build parts. In the case of Remember When, it’s a tribute to the good times.

You’d think that for someone who’s owned more than a dozen craft ranging from speedboats to megayachts, choosing a yacht name would be easy. But John Rosatti actually had a heck of a time with his newest prize, a 162-footer from Christensen Shipyards. He knew he wanted the name to reflect his enjoyment of the cruising lifestyle. After all, he’d christened two previous yachts “Take it Easy” for that reason – same for “Nice N Easy”. Rosatti wanted a different take on the theme this time around, but the right words just wouldn’t come. He kicked around the simple “Easy” for a bit, but ultimately it didn’t speak him… continue reading

Maltese Falcon – The Radical Can be Practical

Maltese Falcon – The Radical Can be Practical

Ken Freivokh, the yacht’s interior designer, says “She has revolutionised the concept of how to sail large yachts, breaking totally new ground in so doing, both in terms of the technology and the conceptual logistics. And in design terms, she is a pure expression of a true transport machine, blurring the distinction between inside and out, expressing the materials and motive power of the total yacht in the treatment of all her spaces and surfaces… continue reading

54 Metre O’Rama Yacht

54 Metre O’Rama Yacht

If you were to create from scratch the ideal superyacht destination, you’d probably come up with something not too dissimilar to Greece, with its enticing islands and historical echoes. The natural wonders of the cruising region are complemented by a number of alluring extras – not least of which are a generally relaxing pace of life and wonderful local hospitality. But it’s a surprising fact that few Greek companies have made their mark in the superyacht sector, especially given the country’s illustrious history of shipbuilding (from the trireme to the modern era). One company intent on changing that is Atalanta Golden Yachts, whose 54-metre O’Rama. launched this spring, already has a successful summer of chartering behind her… continue reading

The Arcadia 85

The Arcadia 85

The Arcadia 85, though neither extravagant not excessive, does not pass unobserved with her original look whose functional solutions could also be trend-setting from the design viewpoint

A yacht in which two distant worlds cohabit, is certainly the product of bold and courageous stylistic and functional practices. The Arcadia 85’ has been designed by architect Francesco Guida’s “Guida engineering + design”, a partner in Arcadia Yachts, a new shipyard which has carried out both the engineering and building of this vessel. From the idea of setting up a yard, therefore from start up to design and prototypes and right down to the launch, only two years have gone by, and time enough to present the yacht at the Dusseldorf Boot 2010 in January. At this point in time they’re currently fitting out the third 85 footer at the Torre Annunziata yard and the new 115’ twin deck, as well as laminating the fourth eighty fiver. Moreover there’s a project for a 135 footer in the Arcadia range to be launched in 2012… continue reading
